Fly fishing for wild brown trout is possible in a range of ponds and lakes
on the estate. The trout breed naturally in the streams that rise from
springs in the woods, and hence are abundant. There are ten ponds on the
headwaters and tributaries of the river Stour. All are in peaceful, beautiful
surroundings. A season's permit costs £100, a week's permit £30.

Emperor, are stocked with Rudd, Roach, Dace

Island has all the above species plus larger
specimens with carp to 2lb. It also has
small bream and tench. Its islands give
good cover to shoals of fish. Luxor is the
specimen carp lake with mirror and common
carp to 25lb, bream averaging 6lb.and tench
averaging 3lb. Flamingo is an ideal instruction
lake with rainbow from 1½ - 8lb.
Dunes is the catch and release lake with
1½ - 4lb and brown trout from 1 -
4lb.Mirage is the lake with rainbow from
1½ - 15lb, and brown trout from 1½

Springs Trout Fishery
Situated beside the River
Dever (a tributary of the legendary River
Test), a big-fish water where many 20 lbs.-plus
Rainbows and Browns are taken each season.
The fishery comprises two spring fed lakes
totalling six acres and a half a mile stretch
of the River Dever. The lakes are well established,
abounding with aquatic fly life, which includes
an abundant Mayfly hatch in each season.
These crystal clear waters enabled discerning
anglers to stalk exceptional fish. Specimen
fish taken at Dever include a British Record
Rainbow of 36-lbs. 14 oz and a Brown of
28 lbs. 2 oz. The minimum stocking size
is 3 lbs., with 5lbs being average. Every
angler coming to Dever Springs has a very
real chance of taking double-figure fish. |

Mill Trout Fishery
Set amid glorious countryside
at the foot of the South Downs, the fishery
comprises three lakes, purpose built in
1985. The fishery is little more than an
hour's drive from London, and 12 miles from
the South Coast. The eight acres of chalk
spring fed lakes are stocked regularly with
rainbow trout up to double figures. Brook,
Brown and Tiger Trout are stocked in the
summer months.

Itchen Fishery
Consists of c. 3½
miles of double bank fishing making it the
longest continuous stretch of the River
in private ownership. The stretch is set
amidst picturesque water meadows with an
abundance of animal, bird and insect life
which creates an atmosphere in which to
unwind from the stresses of life. The fishery
primarily offers salmon and brown trout
fishing. The salmon fishing has an impressive
track record. In the 2000 season the salmon
catch was 131 fish, all of which were successfully
returned to the river or donated to the
broodstock programme. This catch total surpassed
other fisheries in the area as in 1993 (151
fish); 1995 (138 fish); and 1996 (158 fish).
Regular stocking is carried out on the trout
water, using only the highest quality brown
trout, ranging up to 5lbs. These compliment
the wild stock indigenous to the river. |
