Description of Fishings

The fishing is situated about 8 miles north of Dunkeld and runs along the west side of the A9. Access to the fishing hut is directly opposite Kinnaird House, coming from the south turn off to the left approximately 4.5 miles from the bridge over the river Tay. From the north turn off to the right approximately 1.5 miles from the Ballinluig exit.

The beat lies in the attractive Tay Valley and comprises approximately 2 miles double bank fishing. The beat is easily fished from the bank or by wading. The use of boats is dependant on water conditions and at the discretion of the ghillie. A number of sea trout, as well as salmon and grilse are caught each year.

Rods

Lower Kinnaird is considered to be a six rod beat. To reserve the beat exclusively it is understood that the party will pay for six rods, even if there are to be fewer in number. Guests may reserve up to eight rods and will be charged on a pro rata basis. Under no circumstances is rod sharing allowed. Guests who have reserved rods will be the only ones allowed to fish.

From May to October you must stay at Kinnaird Accommodation to fish this beat.

Ghillie

One ghillie and boats are included in the let. The service of the ghillie will be shared if let to more than one party.

Tenants are requested to telephone the ghillie prior to their week's fishing to make final arrangements.

If parties require additional assistance, it may be possible to provide this by arrangement with the ghillie. It is recommended that tenants pay temporary ghillies direct, and any charges are the responsibility of the tenant.

Fishing/Lunch Huts

There is a comfortable fishing/lunch hut, with good vehicular access. Kinnaird's kitchens on request are able to provide packed and picnic lunches.

Rent 2000

From 15th January to 22th April, the fishing can be taken on a daily basis, and the beat is let to a maximum of six rods. From 24th April until the end of the season, the letting is on a weekly basis, if a week is not fully let it will be broken down and let on a daily basis 4 weeks prior to the date. Due to leap years and calendar changes Kinnaird has a policy of readjusting the dates of weekly fishings to compensate every five years. This was last done in January 1997 and hence will be done next in 2002.

Trout & Coarse Fishing

Trout and coarse fishing permits are controlled by Perth & District AA. Fly only on conventional fly rod and reel, no spinning, no minnow. Adults £3/day, juniors £1. Two rods available to public and 2 for members. Fishing 9am to 10pm. Bag limit 8 trout. All trout under 9" to be returned. No fishing either bank within 50m of the fishing hut at Kindallachan. Trout anglers must give way to salmon anglers. Coarse fishing permitd available at same prices.
