Lower Itchen Fishery

Lower Itchen Fishery
Consists of c. 3½ miles of double bank fishing making it the longest continuous stretch of the River in private ownership. The stretch is set amidst picturesque water meadows with an abundance of animal, bird and insect life which creates an atmosphere in which to unwind from the stresses of life. The fishery primarily offers salmon and brown trout fishing. The salmon fishing has an impressive track record. In the 2000 season the salmon catch was 131 fish, all of which were successfully returned to the river or donated to the broodstock programme. This catch total surpassed other fisheries in the area as in 1993 (151 fish); 1995 (138 fish); and 1996 (158 fish). Regular stocking is carried out on the trout water, using only the highest quality brown trout, ranging up to 5lbs. These compliment the wild stock indigenous to the river.
