Description of Fishery

Ythan Valley is a well established 11 acre trout fishery lying in the scenic beauty and wild life of rural Aberdeenshire, but only 20 minutes by car from Aberdeen, Peterhead and Inverurie. Water is clear and spring fed that varies in depth down to 20ft.

Fish Stock

The fishery is well stocked with local hard fighting Rainbow Trout (3.5 lb average). There is a resident population of double figure rainbows and a good head of Wild Brown Trout. The fishery is also stocked with American Brook Trout and Land Locked Salmon. In the summer months Perch can be caught.

Location

Travel North from Aberdeen on the A92 for 16 miles and turn off to Ellon. Head West on the B9005 Methlick/Tarves road for 2 miles and turn first right (800m) past the River Ythan bridge. The Fishery is signposted

Facilities

Large heated lodge with sitting area, water, gas cooker, free tea and coffee, car park and toilet. Tackle for hire, flies and some tackle for sale. Tuition and advice available at all times. Fishing parties and club competitions welcome. River fishing can be arranged. The fishery allows float tubes provided they are pre-booked.

Terms and Conditions

Fly fishing only 8.30 am to dusk or 11pm. Special time arrangements can be made with prior notice. Rod limit 25. All fish kept must be weighed and recorded. Catch and release after limit with barbless hooks.

Day ticket (up to 8 hours) £20 ........... 4 fish limit

Day ticket (up to 6 hours) £15 ........... 3 fish limit

Up to 4 hours ..................£12............ 2 fish limit

Club Members: £1.00 off 4 hour ticket, £1.50 off 8 hour ticket.

Float tube launch...............£5....(reduced to £3 for British Float Tube Association members) Launch must be pre-booked.

Rules

1. Fly fishing only

2. Maximum three flies per cast

3. Single hooks only, maximum size 10 longshank

4. Minimum 6lb leader with lures

5. No droppers allowed with lures

6. All fish caught must be killed until limit is reached

7. No catch and release with lures

8. Barbless hooks must be used after limit is reached

9. No booby style fishing, light, jellies, propellor, flicker or wagglers

10. Fish to be returned must not be removed from the water

11. Rods are not to be left unattended with line in the water. Lost rods will not be retrieved

12. Anyone breaking the rules will be asked to leave with no refund and may be prosecuted, any fish in their possession will be retained by the fishery. Their name will be forwarded to all other fisheries in the area.

All fish remain the property of the fishery until weighed and recorded.

The fishery reserves the right to refuse admission without giving a reason.
